Responses to your suggestions and feedback about the AIC, CHIC & Nyte Byte

Mobile Phone Use in the AIC March 12, 2007

Filed under: mobile phones — uonlibnews @ 12:28 am

Recent comments via the suggestion box call for a ban on mobiles in the AIC. The AIC is the only area in the Library where mobiles can be used but more importantly is the issue of mobile etiquette. Loud conversations annoy everyone whether it is a phone conversation or two people yaking on a train and you can’t read your book etc.

Consideration of others around you is an important issue. Libraries traditionally have been places of quiet contemplation but today especially in academic libraries things have changed and most users want it to be a more socially interactive place.

The AIC may not be the ideal place for some to study and you may need to consider a different place where mobile phones won’t bother you.

phones.. banned?… i think its more of a point that in the main area, having a short conversation, or being quiet about it. Why don’t you just move out past bytes. Maybe turning the volume down on the phone’s ring tone or message town is appropriate as well. I, along with the majority of other people find most ring tones annoying.

    …we agree…
